The more that you read,
the more things you'll know.
The more that you learn,
the more places you'll go.

FiNaLs?!?!?!

i dislike finals... mucho!!!!!

I have a research due in English 251 about "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker.... I'm struggling with this one BIG TIME! PLUS>>>> Don't forget the final which consists of two essays, each about a ridiculous theory (such as feminism, cultural studies, post colonial criticism, and so on) with a three hour time limit. YuCk!

I have a final in Shakespeare which comprises of a complicated essay about three different works of Shakespeare (can't be the comedies) of which there is no way to study for.

I have a final in my RA class (which is part of work, which is ridiculous!) were they gave us five pages of random stuff and said that if we knew EVERYTHING on those five pages... we would ACE the final. (I seriously doubt that!)

I also have an exam in History 201 which is a 100 multiple choice Comprehensive test. Haven't had much time to study for it... but I'm getting there.

Lastly... I have projects due for work (along with that final up there ^ ) Such as all of my One-on-One's (So, I have to write a report about 44 residents [so 44 reports] and type them into the computer) AND I have to have a survey finished and present on it as my end of the Semester report. Can I just say how RIDICULOUS being an RA has turned out to be. Don't get me wrong, I love it! But our new boss has this nasty habit of throwing things at us, with no real explanation as to why, how, when, what and who!!!!!!!!!!! Sigh... it's a little degrading.

On a brighter note, I put a lot of effort into my History Research Paper about Julius Caesar and my Teacher just gave me back my draft and said it was "Almost perfect!" She only found one thing I could try to fix. :) That makes me SUPER happy!

And... I get to come home in 15 days. :)
I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Happy! :) Home! Home! Home!

Mahalo for listening to me vent. I'm gonna get to work now! Toodles!

November 20, 2010

I'm all {tangled} up!

That's it! I am no longer confused about which movie in the entire world is my favorite. Cause now I know!

IT'S TANGLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I absolutely love it more then any other movie! So very good! It's adorable!

And on a side note... I only have twenty two more days till I get to see my wonderful family. Finally! It's been far too long.

We should all go see Tangled again when I get home! It's a date!

November 6, 2010

I am Distraught!

I'm pretty much crying my eyes out cause I cannot find my Master Key.
If it's gone forever, I have to pay $50 to replace it
I really don't want to do that!
I'm praying that I'll find it...

Please please please.....
I have to find it!

Memories!

Hello Family~

The other day I was looking through my USB drive and I found the Wedding song which I wrote for Kelsey and Zac's Wedding dinner. I enjoyed it so much that I want to share it again with you guys! This is what I suggest you do...
1. pull up itunes or you tube and find "what is this feeling" from Wicked.
2. Look at this post (after pausing my music below) and read along
3. Smile and laugh at the cleverness of these lyrics!

Kelsey and Zac's Wedding Song
By: Kylie =D

Kelsey:
Dearest Darlingest Barbara and Randy

Zac:
Paula and Mitch

Both:
There’s been some confusion
Over dating my best Friend

Zac:
But of course, we knew it’d happen.

Kelsey:
But of course, there was that long wait.

Both:
But we know it’s better for everyone
Yes…
There’s been some confusion
For you see, Zac’s home from his mission:

Kelsey:
He took me out and he asked me a simple question
altogether quite impossible to describe…

Zac:
She said Yes!

Kelsey:
What is this happening? So sudden and new?

Zac:
It’s something special for me and you!

Kelsey:
My pulse is rushing!

Zac:
My head is spinning!

Kelsey:
My face is blushing!
Both:
Now it’s beginning!
Expensive and insane,
Does it have a name?
Yes! Wedding,
Look at it, a Mormon wedding

Kelsey:
For our friends

Zac:
Your mom

Kelsey:
Our Family

Both:
Let’s just say – for one and all.
Ev’ry little trait, big or small
Like the wedding cake, so yummy and tall.
It’s a Mormon wedding
There’s a surge of invitations
Siblings standing at their stations
It’s obscure and so long!
Though we do admit it came on fast
Still we can’t believe it came at last!
We’ll be at the wedding
Wedding you
All day long!

Family:
Dear Zac and Kelsey, you are just too good
How can you stand it? I don’t think I could!
She’s amazing! He’s a Carter!
Meeting strangers, standing forever
Mother-in-laws, it’s a starter!

Katrina and Ryan:
Well; these things you’ll suffer together!

Family:
With Kelsey all beautifully dressed
With Zac in a tux, overly stressed,
We just want to tell you,
We’re all on your side!
We’ll share your…
*Kelsey and Zac:
What is this happening? So sudden and new?
It’s something special for me and you!
My pulse is rushing!
My head is spinning!
Oh, now it’s beginning!
Does it have a name?
Yes, ahhh!

*Family:
Wedding,
Look at it, a Mormon wedding
For our friends.
Your Mom.
Our Family.
Let’s just say – for one and all.
Ev’ry little trait, big or small
Like the wedding cake, so yummy and tall.

Kelsey and Zac:

Siblings standing at their stations
It’s obscure and so long!

Wedding
For forever
Wedding
Finally, happily
Wedding you!
All day Long!

Family:
Wedding
Look at it, a Mormon wedding!

Zac:
I love you!

Kelsey:
Ahhh!

Hope you enjoyed that! Cause I did!

SHOUT OUT!!!

This is a Shout Out to all my bestest friends who have done so much for me, from Hawaii and Utah!

(From who I met first to more Recent!)

Brittany Gearheart
My dearest friend and cousin, I love you so very much! I know we almost never see eye to eye on anything, but I really cherish your advice and opinions. You know me very well and I know I forget that very often. You are a beautiful woman whom I look up to very much. I love every moment we spend talking and every moment we spend together when talking about boys and just other ridiculous stuff which cousin's are supposed to talk about! I am so blessed to have grown up with you! I thank Heavenly Father for making you a part of my family! You're practically my sister, and I love you so very very much! I love you Britt!

Megan Braithwaite
Oh Megan! I cannot even tell you how very much I appreciate you because you are ALWAYS yourself. You have so much energy, so much love and so much compassion for everybody around you! I have always admired the way you just jump into things and come out with a million friends. I often wonder if you're afraid of anything! You are so spontaneous and absolutely wonderful. I do not know ANYBODY who doesn't enjoy your company! You are an amazing friend to have and I love you very much! I love you Megan!

Taylor Day
Where do I begin?!!? Taylor!!!!!!! Taylor!!!!!!!! TAY-LOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get so excited when I'm with you! I never know what kind of adventures we will venture on together. You are almost way too amazing for me! I can never keep up! Thanks for all our good times in High School! Thanks for all of our funny jokes, about penguins and other amazing things! Thanks for loving Flamin' Hot Cheetos as much as me! I knew I could always share a bag with you (or watch you eat it all on your own!)! You are amazing! You are beautiful! You are talented! And most of all, you are one of my very best friends! I cannot wait to see your beautiful face again! (Look how RIDICULOUS (and yet beautiful) we are!)

Jaden McCarrey
Haha! The fact that we're friends makes me laugh alone! We were such an odd and crazy pair. I felt like we were always doing something crazy together. But most of all, I loved every minute of it! I loved spending time with the Hannemann's and I loved doing all I could to help out around the Grill. It was always super fun. I never want to do anything else now, just serve others! You are always so happy towards everyone. Even if you don't agree with how someone acts, you still show them that they are loved, and that's amazing! Thanks for your great example friend! Even if you did beat me up! Jokes, Jokes!

Kathery Soares Camacho
You are a sweetheart! You make me smile the minute you walk within 50 feet of me. Es más hermoso entonces todas las estrellas en el cielo. Nunca he tenido a un amigo como tu. Tu nunca para al tener interés en mí. Le adoro! You feed me ALL this Delicious food which I can't even begin to describe how much I love! But most of all, you are one of the most Christ-like girls I have ever met! You always look back to Christ. You are always in touch with the spirit... AND you always have something to teach me! I love you so much Kathery! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all you do and for never giving up on me!

Ty Prince
We've been through so much, and yet, you're still my best best friend! You understand me and always are looking out for me! You always seem to believe that I can reach the highest potential in my life. I feel like I can be myself around you all the time, and that's super important to me! You help me whenever I am in need and are so very giving with your advice, stuff and spirit. Thank you for always being honest with me and sharing your missionary experiences with me (i enjoy them very much!). Thank you for telling me the truth, especially when I need to hear it. And lastly, thank you for always letting me joke around with you! I don't know what I'd do without a friend who I can just joke around with! Thank you!

Andrea Hansen
I was wrong you know... you are WAY MORE BEAUTIFUL then Taylor Swift or Nicole Kidman! And, I know for a fact that you are smarter then either of them, when it comes to friendship. You are never afraid to be yourself, and you always encourage me to do the same. You're super encouraging when it comes to making hard decisions. Plus! You always offer support when I'm looking for advice or wanting to just share a story! Thanks for always listening and laughing at my stories or little verbal jabs! I really feel so happy whenever I'm around you!

Gabby Sabalones (picture above!)
I have never met anyone like you! You always manage to make me smile and help me feel good about what I'm doing with my life! You always help me see things the way they are. Thank you for always explaining things to me so I understand. I feel like it happens alot and I know it helps! One thing you do that ALWAYS amazes me is the way you connect everything back to Heavenly Father as a blessing! I look up to you so very much! Thank you for helping me with everything! p.s. NEVER GOING SOUTH!

I would just like to conclude this little post with a little poem that I found a long time ago. I'm not sure who wrote it... but I love it just the same. I would now like to share it with you!

Friends
Friends smile at you.
They like your face.
They want to be with you
Any old place.

Friends have fun with you.
Friends share
They’re glad when you’re happy---
When you’re sad, they care.

If you’re a friend
Then you care, too.
That’s why your friends
Are glad you’re you!!!

I've always felt that my friends were glad I was me! And that is why they are my friends! So one more time, a HUGE SHOUT OUT! for my friends! Thank you for always being there for me. I hope I am always there for you!

I have Promises to Keep

If you watched conference, you saw the our beloved Prophet, Thomas S. Monson. However, I heard something that he said which caught my attention. He said "I have miles to go before I sleep and promises to keep". My mind went crazy because I knew EXACTLY what he meant. President Monson was quoting Robert Frost's poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening".

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there's some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I Love this poem for a million reasons! However, the one point I think has helped me the most is the poem's simplicity. President Uchtdorf mentioned bringing the Gospel back to the basics and remembering the simplicity of the church and I think that it is super important that we do that. The gospel, and the way we teach others about it is one of our main purposes in life. Our duty to bring others unto Christ cannot be ignored or forgotten. That is why we have miles to go before we sleep. We made a promise to Heavenly Father that we would do everything we could to get back to him and bring as many as we can with us. I will forever keep that promise

Heidi Prince

Heidi Prince [Hi-Dee prins] -noun
1)This girl that is way cool
2)Heidi is an amazing, energetic, smart, styling, rocking, funny, gorgeous girl. She laughs at everything, and is almost always smiling. She is beautiful both inside & out. This girl definitely has a temper, but she controls it most of the time. She is a dud(e) magnet. Every guy on this planet is lucky to have her. And she even has a hot name! As in "Of course she is...that's Heidi"
3)Heidi is the name only given to those who deserve and respect it. There is no such thing as simply "A Heidi," as anyone with the name of Heidi deserves special recognition. Anyone named Heidi should be addressed as "The Heidi" because no Heidi is ordinary and each and every Heidi is worthy of such a title.

- verb
1) When you find a really rare or unique friend; One of a kind person
As in "I just Heidied."

Basically.... I love every story I hear about Heidi Prince and I want to meet her soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad! (In person, as opposed to over the phone)
p.s. I hope you enjoyed this Heidi!

Fall Semesters = Bueno!

I absolutely, positively, love my new classes!

My first class is History with an incredible teacher (Sister Lane) who I love listening to because she is super smart! [The classroom is also very very very cold, but I'll survive because I have SO many friends in that class! It's gonna be legit]

My Second class is probably my ALL TIME FAVORITE CLASS already. It's English 382 with Brother Marler, who makes me smile widely, and he'll be teaching us SHAKESPEARE!!! {smile!} I am Stoked!

Third Class is Espanol 301. It should be fun, but it'll be a lot like my first class with Hermano Richardson. He's not very enthusiastic, but he is funny... so it makes up for it.

I had my Audition for Orchestra today and Brother Bradshaw said he was impressed by my improvements and that I sounded really really good! =D Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy! Maybe I'll move up a chair. Although it would be nice to stay in the back too. I love being in the back! No pressure!

I have two more classes to endure and decide if I love them tomorrow and then I'll be set for the semester. I am soooooo excited! Why are fall semesters always so fun!?!?!?!?!? I love them!

{Owl City} in Hawaii

I just went to the most AMAZING concert ever! It was soooooo much fun. Given, I did got with the most amazing boyfriend ever and he went over the call of duty to get us there! =D Gotta love Ty Prince. But along with that, the night was FULL of miracles. It was crazy!
Here's the story. Saturday morning, I worked all morning and was getting myself pumped for this concert. Finally the time came and Ty came to pick me up in a borrowed car (thanks Scott!) And we started for a billiards store. (To make a really long and frankly unnecessary story short, we made it there) Ty's Hale is having a pool tournament here in the near future so he was looking for prizes for the winner. When we actually arrived it was closed. Ty kept looking inside even though it was closed and the owner saw him and opened it up for us again. He had left something behind and came back to get it just in time to find us peeking into his store. {Miracle #1}
After we looked around for a bit, we drove towards town so we could go to the cheesecake factory! =D We ended up parking at the mall and taking a trolley over the the restraunt but it was super fun. The wait for a table was 70 minutes long so we sucumbed to buying slices of cheescake and then going to the foodcourt in the market. It was delcious anyways! We ate there, then got back on the trolley then got back into the card to drive to the concert.
We were a little worried about getting in because we forgot the receipt for the tickets back in Laie but they let us in with Ty's Credit card number which was on file. So we got in and it was awesome! I had never been to a concert like it! It was a fun and very new experience. I was worried it was going to be super super tight and it was going to be hot. However it wasn't super bad and I actually got really cold. It was still busy but... not as much.... which was nice.

Ty knew mostly all of the songs so it was fun to listen to him singing along! Haha. I only knew acouple so I couldn't sing too much. Just dance to the beat! The singer was super fun to watch! He was a great entertainer! He made the concert really really fun! When he sang the song Vanilla Twilight we recorded it on my camera for Ty's sister Heidi, who was super jealous we were there! She was in our hearts all night so, it was like she was there!
After the concert we bought T-shirts! I LOVE MINE!!!!!! Ty actually bought them (he spoils me!) but didn't get one for him. The white one is for me and the brown one is for his sister. His heart is too big for his wallet! LoL

We started for home after that, both of us kind of hoping we'd find an ice-cream spot or something. Unfortunately our gas was very very low and we were a little turned around. I was praying and praying we would find a gas station soon because as long as you have gas... it's okay if your lost! Ty finally turned on a street to look at the map. The street he picked was really scary looing and I was a little scared. After looking at the map, Ty randomly started going further down the scary street. Then, totally surprsing, we found a gas station on our left a couple of blocks down! I thanked Heavenly Father so quickly! That was a quick answer to my prayer. {Miracle #2}
After we got gas we finally made it back to familiar roads and started getting close to home. That's when Ty pointed out that the same scary road was the road that led us home and how it was a miracle we made it home because he turned on that road by chance. {Miracle #3} I was a little skeptical on this one cause I though we had turned onto a different road. But apparently not. I have a terrible sense of direction.
It was an awesome night and a fun way to get to know Ty better. He's got such a good heart and he seems always to be intune with the spirit!
Gotta love Ty Prince! =D

Hawaii has its moments... because of Drama!

To put it simply, I absolutely love living in Hawaii! Being back has been so much fun! I've met a lot of new people, who I am slowly building friendships with, which is my favorite thing to do! But I have also come across my old friends; some not so friendly anymore. But it's alright, friends come and go right? It's family that is forever. So I'm not too worried. It's just no fun to go through these changes. Let me tell you...

The most dramatic thing, and the coolest thing, has happened within my group of friends that I just barely became a part of during Spring Term. The friends involved are Ty, Spenser, Emily, Alyssa, Charli, Elise, Millie, Catherine, Andrea and Mark. Now, before the summer everybody was doing great! We always had "family dinner" on Sunday nights before we went to the Firesides. Then we would play games until it got too late to do that. I felt so blessed that they wanted me to come and be part of their "family". It was always really fun!

Now, everything has changed! Welcome to the world of "what the heck just happened?" (just to back up a bit, I did have a little Drama with Ty during the summer about Alyssa because he still liked her a such. But we talked through it and everything was fine. We were just going to be friends. Or so I thought!) When I got back
1. Spenser was gone. He's in Las Vegas trying to find a job and trying to get back into school over there.
2. Andrea was gone. I found out she's coming back in the Fall but I surely miss her wonderful face.
3. Ty and Mark both decided to become RA's for Hale 4. So we had training together for the first two days that I got back. It was fun!
4. Millie, Elise, Alyssa and Charli ALL live in Hale 3
5. Catherine was gone. (She's back now but... that's not the point)

Anyway, plenty of changes to go around. But here's the kicker... Everyone had changed. It's really kind of crazy. There's so much going on between everyone, it's hard to keep up. And to make things worse, I have made things even more complicated. But whatever. It's not like I did it on purpose.

So Hawaii, I love it! Absolutely love it! I was just at the Beach all day so I really cannot complain. It's the dramatic friends that make Hawaii a dull place to be. But hey, the Islands big enough to get away from it all. That's the best part!
Bueno!

Birthday Confession

As many of you know, I turned 19 this last Saturday! I really did have a fantastic birthday! It was full of fun and adventure! We went to the beach, to town, went shopping, ate frozen yogurt and had cake! Unfortunately, that's not all that went on. I also did an activity before the beach that started really well, but got really dicey at the end. This is the one thing that made my birthday so great! This incident made my birthday even greater because my friends and I all walked home together; alive and safe.

Here's the story! Don't kill me! Just know... this is what happened.

The day started wonderfully. I woke up at 6am to turn off the Alarms and unlock the doors to the Hale before I went back to bed for another wonderful hour of sleep. After an hour, my friend Spenser Arn, texted me saying "We're jumping point at 9:00!" I was stoked. (As you know from some previous posts, The Point is a small cliff of which you can jump off of into the ocean, just for fun. I had done it twice before and I was excited to do it again)
Right after Spenser texted me, I got up and dressed in my beach attire, grabbing sunblock and anything else which I thought I needed. I rode my bike to Kathery's house in the wonderful warmth of Laie. Once I got there, she was still very much asleep. But after poking her, she got up! I texted Spenser telling him that Kathery just woke up and that we might be a little late. He told us to hurry up and suite up! We quickly ate our oatmeal and walked over to Foodland. Spenser then texted me again and said "Actually, it looks like we're going to be a little late too" I was like "What a joke! We're right in front of Foodland!" Kathery and I rolled our Eyes and walked up to point without them.
When we got there, Kristine and Kalie were already there. They had gone for a run and were stretching up by the rocks. About the same time that Kathery and I got there, Rebecca popped up from behind us! I was so glad she was able to come! I called Spenser and asked him where he was. He said he was going as fast as he could! He was waiting for Ty and Andrea. While we waited, Kathery instructed us in a Yoga lesson. It was really fun and it felt so good!
Finally Ty, Spenser and Andrea appeared from behind bush! It was time to jump! We were all so stoked! I was so excited to have all these wonderful people with me! They're all amazing and I love them with all my heart. The Eight of us were unstoppable!

We made our way to the edge of the Point and looked down at the water nervously. Everyone urged me to go first since it was my birthday... but I really didn't want to go first. So, Kristine decided she was going to go first. She ran, jumped and screamed "Happy Birthday Kylie!" all the way down until she hit the water. Spenser went next, determined to jump higher and scream louder. He ran, jumped and screamed until he also was in the water. Then it was my turn.
I stood at the edge, building the courage to jump. I looked down and the water, waiting for a wave to come so I could jump into it. Finally, a huge wave came and I threw my body off the cliff. I didn't scream, but I was smiling the whole way down. I felt like I was flying. Finally, I hit the water, legs bent but head up. I went pretty far down, but I didn't hit the bottom. I kicked hard and made it back to the surface. What a great feeling. Knowing that you were swimming in the ocean after jumping from a rock, it was amazing! I looked up and saw Kalie jump in near me. She screamed out like Tarzan. It was funny! I looked up to the right of where we were jumping and I saw tourists taking pictures of us. It was really funny.
Finally it was Kathery's turn to jump. She was so nervous. She took forever to jump but finally she did. Once Kathery hit the water, I swam towards the coral so I could climb back to the top and jump again. I waited for a wave to lift me before I planted my feet down and stood atop the coral. Kalie swam with Kathery and did the same thing. We all made it up. As we climbed up the side of the cliff, back up to the top, Rebecca had jumped and was right behind us. As I got to the top, Ty and Andrea also jumped. It was Andrea's first time and she was super nervous. But Spenser encouraged her and finally she jumped right after Ty.
As I made it back over to the jump site, Spenser was already running and jumping off the cliff. I watch as he threw his chest out and flew down into the waves. I wished I was brave enough to do something like that, but I wasn't. I waited for Kathery and Kalie to come up behind me before I approached the ledge for another jump. I could not see Spenser because he had already swam under the ledge and was probably already on the coral. I jumped again, with the same feeling of excitement! But this time, when I reached the surface, I noticed the waves were so much bigger then they were ten minutes ago.
I look at the coral ledge and saw Ty and Andrea struggling to get on the Coral. Spenser was already standing on it, trying desperately to help the other two up. I began to swim towards them, knowing that I had to get out of the water. But then Spenser yelled at me "Tell them not to jump!" I saw his face as he screamed; something was wrong. I swam away from the coral, back out to where the other four could see me. I screamed at Kathery not to jump, because she was on the ledge, ready to throw herself back in the water. At first they didn't hear me, but finally after they saw how hard the waves were hitting me, they got the message.
I looked back towards the Coral ledge. Spenser was standing, hugging the wall with his back. Andrea and Ty were both sitting next to him. He screamed something, but I didn't hear him before a huge wave came from behind me, enveloping me in the water. I kicked back towards the surface and took a huge breath. I looked back at the ledge.
I couldn't see Andrea and Spenser was hanging onto Ty's arm, desperately trying to keep him on the ledge. I turned my back to them as I felt a swell coming towards me. I looked and saw a wave that was much bigger then me. I dove into the wave, kicking as hard as I could against the current. I felt myself getting pushed closer to the coral. I knew that if they wave hit me into the coral, I would get hurt. So I tried to swim back towards the ocean. I finally broke the surface, gasping for air. I looked back towards the others. Ty was lying on his back, trying to regain his footing. Spenser had both of his arms around someone's arms. I couldn't see her behind the rock but I knew it was Andrea. She had been thrown into two rocks and was now stuck between the two. Spenser was hanging on very tightly.
Another wave hit me from behind. This one spun me around pretty bad. I swam down, trying to find the current. I finally found it and found myself back in the air. I was so much closer to the coral then before. I knew I had to get away from it. I wanted to swim to where Spenser, Ty and Andrea were so I could help, but I knew that I would have gotten hurt if I swam over there. I watched helplessly as Spenser was knocked off his feet and let go of Andrea. He quickly jumped back and grabbed her. Ty was hanging on to a rock, determined not to let go.
Another Wave hit me. It wasn't as big as the last two, which I was grateful. I began to pray that Heavenly Father would help me find a way out of the water and watch the others at the same time. Then I noticed that once the waves hit the rocks that Andrea was stuck in, the waves ceased, making the water behind it a lot calmer. I knew I had to go around the boulder, on the opposite side of where the other three were. I began to swim out and around the boulder. When I was within acouple feet of the boulder, my shin hit some shallow coral. I started to run on it before a wave came and swept me off my feet. I scraped my leg along the coral, trying to stay standing.
I finally made it around the boulder and found a medium sized rock of which I took sanctuary. I breathed hard as I climbed up to safety. I looked up and saw Ty and Andrea standing in an alcove behind the giant boulder. Ty looked drained. Andrea look extremely pale. I couldn't see Spenser. I began to freak out. But then he appeared from behind the boulder, running at Ty shouting "Where's Kylie?!" Ty hadn't seen me and just stared at Spenser. Then Spenser turned around and saw me. His face flooded with relief. I had never seen someone so relieved before.
He beckoned my forward, telling me I had to jump to the next rock. I looked around relentlessly. I really didn't want to move. But I listened to Spenser, trusting that he would come and get me if anything went wrong. I jumped from the medium rock to a smaller rock. After that, I made it into the alcove.
We all stood there for a moment. We were all alive. But we weren't out yet. Waves still came into the alcove pretty hard, making us hang onto the rocks so we wouldn't get swept away. Spenser looked around, trying to find a way out. He looked at me and shouted "We have to get out of here!" I looked the way we would usually get out and knew there was no way that was going to happen. I looked the opposite way, knowing that we could swim to shore. As I mentioned it, I knew that wasn't a possibility either. Andrea was pale and bleeding from scratches on her legs and Ty was in no condition to be swimming.
Spenser and I looked up and found that it was possible for us to climb up and out. However, the rocks were sharp and we knew it would be difficult.
Then, like a miracle from heaven, Kristine and Kalie appeared above us. We shouted at them to throw down our shoes. They quickly grabbed our shoes and started throwing them down. The first slipper we tried to hand to Andrea, but she shook her head and said it wasn't hers. Spenser tried to hand it to me, but I shook my head and said "It's not mine". Spenser then looked up at Kristine and said "This isn't any of ours!" Kristine looked at us like we were idiots. "Just put them on!" She shouted. (Now looking back at this part, we all feel really silly).
Finally everyone was wearing slippers (flip-flops) and we were ready to climb up and out. I went first. I climbed halfway up a rock with Spenser's arm around me, making sure I didn't fall. I found a hole which I could climb through. The hole was covered with sharp rocks, but at this point, I didn't care. I wriggled through, tearing my swimsuit and made it through. I was safe.
Spenser shouted for Kalie and Kristine to pass down shirts to cover the sharp rocks. (Wish they had thought of that earlier) We placed the shirts over the rocks before sending Andrea up. Andrea made it through the hole with ease and was standing safe next to me. Ty came through next, also making it through the hole. As he climbed through the hole, I saw that his back was scratched up pretty bad. (I found out later that when Spenser had caught his arm, Ty had been pushed down the coral, scratching his back as he rolled down).

Spenser was next and last. He was too big to make it through the hole, so he climbed up and over the hole. He lost his slipper as he climbed up. I couldn't believe that he actually thought about going back to get it. We all scolded him, urging him to just come up to safety. He watched his slipper for a minute before joining us on the ground.
We all climbed up the rest of the way and made it to where Rebecca and Kathery were waiting for us. We all stood in a circle, staring at each other, breathing hard. I saw that Spenser was bleeding from scratches on his legs. Andrea also had many scratches all over her legs, and she had a few cuts on her arms and face. Ty's knees looked pretty bad, and so did his back. I looked down at my own leg and saw that only my left leg had gotten hurt. I was grateful.

Andrea's Injuries:

Spenser's Injuries:

My Leg:

We were alive. We were all safe. We later said a prayer, thanking Heavenly Father for blessing us with safety. But as we walked home, Ty said "I'm glad we are all walking home together." Spenser looked at him emotionally, pointing out the three key words in Ty's statement.
1. "Walking" - We had all only received minor injuries and were alright.
2. "Home" - We had lived to make it there. The happiest place to be.
3. "Together" - We hadn't lost anyone. We were all together and we all made it.

I am so grateful that we all made it out safely. At first I felt super guilty because it was my birthday activity. But Ty has told me many times that it is not my fault and that I shouldn't feel bad. I still do a little, but I'm ultimately grateful that we were able to keep our cool and make it out of there.
Ty told me to have a good birthday because I had so much to be grateful for. I took his advice and ended my day with them, feeling older and wiser.

Now, I'm confessing to all this, so nobody is allowed to kill me. It's okay. We all made it. We're all doing very well. And the four of us who got stuck down there, we are all taking care of each other and looking out for each other. I've spent pretty much everyday with Andrea, Spenser and Ty. We all love each other so much more and we all understand each other so much more then before. It's been crazy but ultimately, I'm glad.

Ty and I decided that, ultimately, this was the best birthday ever. I'll never forget my {19th} year~!

Yea I'm {white}!!!!!

There is one hard thing about living at BYU Hawaii. There are many "special" people who think that being white is a bad thing. I am sick and tired of being referred to as white, being teased because I am white and being excluded from groups because I am white!
Why does it matter that I am white?!??!?! I'm not any different from a Tahitian girl. We're both beautiful in our own way. We both have lives of which we are trying to live. Lastly we are both daughters of God. So my question is "Why is one being treated badly because of her skin color?"

I guess I really don't care for the answer... I just don't get why being white is such a bad thing. A lot of beautiful things are white.
~ Snow
~ Clouds
~ Doves
~ Flowers
~ Baby Harp Seals
~ Lions
~ Tigers
~ Bears
~ Oh my....

Anyway, I know I shouldn't be so upset about this but, it kills me that someone is making fun of who I am. I do not think they realize what they're doing by saying things against being white, but it still isn't fun to endure.
I am white. I am beautiful. I am who I am. Anyone that has a problem with that can just deal with it. It's their problem, not mine!

Phew, now I feel better.
You know what else is white... and very useful? Toilet Paper!!!!!

3 {wonder}ful things

So three things made this weekend amazing! And there's a story for each.
The first, Avatar. Once upon a time, I wasn't having the greatest day. I was tired. I felt sick. I found out something about one of my friends that made me kind of sad. And I was frustrated with an English assignment. Then it all changed. The wonderful Kathery called me and told me to come to her house where she would feed me delicious food and then we would watch AVATAR with her landlord and housemates! That definitely put a smile on my face.

The second thing will always be my favorite. I finally convince Max to take me surfing again. I did way good this time. I caught all my own waves! I still struggle staying up for a long time, but otherwise I did really good. Surfing is so fun. There's no other feeling like it. Once you get up there, it's like your flying. I just have to learn how to fly longer.

The last and third thing was totally unexpected. So once upon a time I was sitting in the RA office when I heard someone say "coconut M&M's". I was like "No Way?!?!" So I asked one of my friends about it. I asked if there was such a thing as coconut M&M's. They said there was no such thing. I was a little sad about that but I moved on. Then the next day, I was cleaning in the lounge for work when I dropped my key next to the vending machine. When I picked up my key, something caught my eye. It was an M&M's package... but it was white. I looked closer.... COCONUT M&M's!!!!!!!! It made my day! I ran back to my room and grabbed 3 quarters, 2 dimes and 1 nickel. The experience was wonderful! I love coconut M&M's!

Life just could not be better!

Spring Break!

The break was Awesome! And well needed! Let's see if I can conjure up some of the numerous activities that happened! First off, I spent pretty much every night with Kathery! She's amazing! I love her so much because she's always super happy and she makes me laugh out loud! Plus she always brings a wonderful spirit into the room. She's just so darn adorable.
One day we went to the beach with Brendan and Alan. It was super fun. Minus the part when Brendan threw me in the water (don't worry, I held on to him and ended up making him fall face first into the water too.) and when I swallowed half of the ocean because I was laughing so hard. My throat burned so bad for the rest of the night! That wasn't fun, but I ended up forgetting all about it.
One night, we went to a bonfire at Huki Lau beach. It was super fun. Our friend Mike was setting up the fire in the wind and rain. It was amazing. We walked over there with Shiri, whom is actually from Pleasant Grove (go figure!!), and met up with Mike there! Kristine showed up around that time too. Super fun! Then Two girls showed up with Dave, who is super funny. The girls didn't stay very long, which was a bummer, but we still had more people come. Lauren and Bonnie showed up after we got the fire started! Once we had that, we ate starburst's, talked, roasted marshmallows (which I can TOTALLY cook better than Mike!), made banana boats (Kathery's favorite!) , grilled some Bratwurst hot dogs and last but not least, watched as Mike cooked this GINORMOUS steak which we ripped apart and passed around like mountain men! it was legit!
Another night, we all got together at Kathery's house to make Brazilian candies and Apple sauce cake. (We ended up making homemade Musabi and noodles too). We had a ton of people there! (According to Kathery, half the world) There was Me, Kathery, Shiri, Lauren, Bonnie, Alan, Brendan, Harvey, Haile and my new roommate Briana. (Yep! That's half the world right there! LoL) We ate, we laughed, we teased, we preached. It was just another great night. We all kind of split up at the end. Kathery stayed home, Briana went to bed, Brendan and Alan had left early for Ultimate Frisbee, but that's where the rest of us ended up. This is where the night got crazy. It was Brendan's last night in Hawaii so he REALLY wanted to do something fun. However Lauren was super sick. Apparently she was soooooo sick that Alan, Shiri and Bonnie decided to take her to the hospital. (two things, She never sleeps, which might be the reason she's sick and she went to Kahuku hospital, they never help with anything!) Anyway, so I was left with Brendan, who really didn't want to go to the hospital, and Chantal, who has the biggest crush on Brendan! To Chantal, I was the third wheel. To Brendan, I was a hero! hahaha. We ended up going to foodland to get drinks and then we watched Dodge-Ball at Chantal's house. (p.s. Don't watch Dodge-Ball! It's sooooo bad!) No bueno. But it was still fun to hang out with Brendan before he went back home.
One night, we did the funnest thing! Me, Kathery, Kristine, Christine and another girl who works with Kathery who's name escapes me right now, went to Windward Mall to eat dinner, see a movie and shop for a bit. It was soooooooooo fun! I had Papa John's pizza pasta! It was okay... not the best... but I was sooo hungry! Then we went and saw "How to Train your Dragon" in 3D. It was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Good! I absolutely love it! It's funny, cute, has a good story and it's just a great movie! Plus, the soundtrack is to die for! Almost as good as Avatar! After the movie, we headed to Claire's where Kristine got her ears pierced!!!! I bought a lot cute earings! Krista would be proud! Plus, my flip flops broke a couple of nights before so I bought another pair. I love them.
For the majority of the break, I introduced Kathery to 24. We pretty much had a marathon! We stayed up really, really late watching it. Twice, I ended up sleeping over because I was to tired to walk back home at three in the morning! LoL
It was an amazing break! But now it's time to get to work and go to school! Fun!

I must be insane!

For Hawaiian Studies, we have to pick two Hawaiian songs to represent the Hawaiian culture. We have to write an essay about both the songs and what we've learned from the lyrics. Then we have to tie that back to the history of Hawaii and the connection the people have with the 'aina (land). Simple enough right? WRONG!
So we have to present one of the songs we have chosen. Now the paper says to sing, dance or play it on an instrument. However, our teacher told our class that we could just bring a CD to play it for the class. (He only announced this because a lot of the girls were complaining). But I decided that I wasn't going to do that. So what did I do? I learned how to play Aloha 'Oe on the Ukulele! I know! It's crazy! I'll be playing like Elvis! LoL (Hence the picture)
It wasn't until now that I realized that I must be insane! I don't like singing in front of everyone! I hate it so much! But if I just play the song without singing, it won't make any sense. So I have to sing! Curses! Why do I always have to be different!? Why didn't I just present a CD? I just had to go the extra mile! Ugh!

No making fun of me!

Okay, so I was sitting here at work, going about my day like a normal person, when I looked at the calender and realized that Jaden only has one more day in the MTC before he heads towards Indianapolis. So I got super excited!
I immediately got on facebook to see if one of his sisters had posted his new address, you know just to prepare myself. I'm not going to write him yet because I've only just started Alma, but I thought maybe knowing his address would make me read a little faster and get a move on! (I'll admit, I should be reading the Book of Mormon without problem but, this is why I'm doing this!)
Well, I got on facebook, and could not find any new postings about his address. However, I did look on his mission group page and found that his sister just posted the pictures they took of him as he was entering the MTC.
I got super duper excited! I don't know what it was but seeing him with a suit on, with a cool backpack, and last but not least with his Tag that read "Elder McCarrey"... I got super excited! I didn't miss him anymore either. Instead, I've started feeling really excited for him! I've begun to think about all the good he's going to do out there in Indiana! I can't stop smiling I'm so excited for him!
Well, that is all! Don't make fun of me, I just had to let it out! And now I'm off to finish Alma! I'm determined!

At the Moment...

(I'm totally copying Brittany's last post! I liked it!)

1. Really like Biology, but I can't pass the tests!
2. Love bisquits (and I'm about to eat some! Thanks Ambree!)
3. Now have a second closet of which I have full access to
4. Batman is now number 3. (Jesus Christ is #1 and Daddy is #2)
5. Doritos make your breath smell really bad... but they're still tasty (and all comercials are soo funny!)
6. Going to Wal-Mart in Utah = Usual Errand. Going to Wal-Mart in Hawaii = ALL DAY EVENT!
7. Hawaii + School = No Beach (Sorry!)
8. Two jobs that require you to sit alot; Lifeguarding and RA-ing (First one at least is in the sun!)
9. Field Trip to the PCC anyone! Ha!
10. Unusual fascinations with Zebras, Avatar and Sprinkles!
11. Really missing a certain missionary right now... no big deal

HaHa that was so random and yet really fun. I'll have to do that again sometime!
Adios!

Dinner at Erika's

Around 6:00 on Tuesday night, I went to the Library to study for my Biology test. When I got there, I found out my friend Erika was the Biology tutor up in the Tutor Lab. I was thrilled! I finally would get help with my Biology! We studied for about four hours. Somewhere in the middle of that time, we watched three funny Dorito superbowl commercials... I laughed so hard! But that's beside the point. After we studied, we headed over to Erika's house so we could grab some money and then go to Foodland to buy stuff for dinner. We bought Garlic bread, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, corn and ice-cream (Take the cake - best kind)
We walked back to her house and started making EVERYTHING. (Note, we were cooking the corn in the microwave, bread in the toaster oven and spaghetti on the stove) Suddenly, everything turned off and we were surrounded by darkness!
We had blow the fuse! Haha! Erika couldn't believe it. It had never happened to her before I guess. We couldn't flip the switch because it was in her landlords house and they were asleep. (Note, this was around 11:00pm)
So, this was our solution. We moved the toaster oven to a plug on the floor that DID work and finished cooking the bread. The corn was pretty much warmed up so we had that ready. So we ate Corn, Bread and then Ice-cream. That was our dinner! Ta duh! Welcome to college life. =D
It really was way fun. I loved how Erika and her roommates kept apologizing for their "ghetto house" every ten minutes. I told them I didn't mind. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Plus it made me laugh super hard. It was great!

I'm the Hawaiian Supergirl!

I did the scariest thing! I jumped The Point! Ahhhh!

I'm not sure how High it is really, but It's higher than the Rock at Wimea. Plus, one your in the water, you have to climb up the rocks to get back to the top. The rocks are really sharp and it's pretty High! So of course I was scared!

I wasn't planning it at first. I was just going to watch and then head to the beach with Peja. But as I watched the boys, I really wanted to do it! I was really scared but I really wanted to try it.

So I worked up the courage! And I jumped! It was so scary!

But I did it! I can say that I jumped The Point! I'm so happy!

Good Luck Elder McCarrey!

This is a tribute for my best friend, Jaden! He has reported to the MTC today so that he may prepare to serve in the Indianapolis, Indiana mission! He will be leaving the MTC later in March for the state.

I am super excited for him! It's crazy that he's actually gone. It seems like just yesterday we were running around BYU Hawaii campus, just acting crazy (which was totally normal by the way). Here are 3 prime memories of such occasions.
Memory #1 - One night, I totally don't remember what we were doing beforehand, but we ended up in front of his Hale. We were a little hyped up and kind of started wrestling. Then Jaden started jumping over me and doing all these crazy things. Because he's crazy, he told me to do a handstand against the tree. I told him that I couldn't do a handstand. He was appalled! He couldn't believe that I had been dancing for so long and I had never been able to do a handstand. I told him it was because I was too scared to fall on my head. He immediately began to teach me how to protect my head by rolling out of handstands and dives and such. It took awhile but I eventually learned. It took alot of courage on my part. I truly was horrified and I always fell and hurt my back. Jaden didn't give on me! And when it seemed like he was going to stop, I didn't give up on myself. This is a great example of the kind of person he really is. He's a good teacher. He didn't give up on me even though at times I wasn't even trying. He's also very encouraging. If he thinks you can do it, he won't rest until you can. (This is an excellent quality for Missionaries)

Memory #2 - Around Christmas, there was a little Christmas concert in the Aloha Center. My Relief Society President suckered me into performing in it one night. I was planning on doing it all by myself, but then I decided that I really didn't want to stand up there on a stage all by myself. As Helen Keller put it "Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much!" I mentioned that I was playing for the concert when I was eating dinner with Jaden. Then the idea came to me, I'll ask Jaden if he'll sing while I play on my Viola. (I mostly asked him because I've never heard him say No). So I asked him. He said he would. =D It wasn't until we were actually practicing that he was surprised to find out that there wouldn't be a piano accompanying us or anything. I said "who needs a piano?" and he seemed okay with that. When we performed, I guess a forgot to tell Jaden to dress up. He figured that because this was Hawaii that he wouldn't have to. I was in a nice dress and he was in a T-shirt and Cargo pants! Plus it was pouring rain so he was soaked! Love it! We performed the Christmas song called "The First Noel". He sang two versus, not memorized. I played three versus... all memorized. Okay I only played two versus but I played an introduction. But I had in memorized. He's a really brave guy. He's never embarrassed or nervous. When I tell him that, he gets defensive and says "that's not true". But I don't care what he says, he's still super brave. Plus he's a great helper. I know that sounds super second grade teacher but... he really is! He loves to serve. This is another reason he's going to great as a Missionary!

Memory #3 - This one might come across a little cheesy. But it's a good one. During Fall Semester, kind of around the time when I met Jaden, he was super busy with the School Play. The Play was "Cash on Delivery" and it was super funny. I was super excited to go see it and I convince my friend Michael to come and see it with me. I had decided beforehand that I was going to get something for Jaden for doing such a great job in the play (You know, like flowers or candy or something). From a previous activity, I remembered that Jaden really like Pumpkin pie. So I ran to the grocery store, Foodland, and bought a pumpkin pie. I took a sharpie and wrote on the lid "Good Job Luh!" (Inside Joke, don't worry about it!) Then I hid it in my bag and went to dinner. Jaden was at dinner, before he had to go get ready for the play. At dinner he was eating some mysterious dessert, not unusual in the Cafe at all, and said something like, "I want pumpkin pie!" I tried so hard to laugh! He had no idea that I had already got a Pumpkin Pie for him. Lol. So we went to the play, and it was great. Jaden was the main character, Eric Swan who, unbeknown to his wife Linda, has been defrauding the DSS for two years by claiming benefit for many non-existing lodgers, all of whom suffer from some disability or family loss in which they can claim. That's how the play begins, Eric bites off a little more than he can chew and tries to quit by killing off his "tenants". It's really crazy and it moves really quickly so you have to be paying attention the whole time. I absolutely loved it. It was so funny! Plus, all the actors were perfect for the characters. Each one was really convincing. At the end, we found Jaden and gave him his pie. He flipped out! He was so psyched out that we brought him a pie. Plus he laughed super hard (not that anyone else cares but this was the first night that he hugged me! I was super excited so... Ha!). Later that night, I was going to start some homework before bed when Jaden called and asked if I wanted to eat the pie with him in the courtyard. =D Of course I did! So I went out there with him and we ate the pie and talked about the play. He was psyched to hear that I liked it so much. But he really was fun on stage and easy to follow and listen to. I guess that's my stretch for this memory. He's really easy to Listen to. He has a way of talking, even if it is a monologue on stage, that just makes you want to listen. I like it when he goes off reciting songs and monologues which he has memorized. They're all really fun! He's really Fun!

Well, that is some of Jaden in a nut shell. He made Fall semester very interesting here at BYU Hawaii. He brought alot of things to the table. I learned alot from him and I'm sure I will still learn a ton, even if he is on a mission. I don't understand where he gets all the energy. He's always happy and ready to just get it done. I will surely miss him. But it'll be super fun to write him so I'm totally okay with that. Good Luck Elder McCarrey!

Tsunami!!!!!!

Saturday Morning, I got a phone call from my Hale Mom, Erin. She told me that there was a Tsunami warning due to an earthquake from Chile earlier that morning. I got up, quickly put together my own bag of food, clothes and water. Then I set out to help the rest of the Girl's in the Hale. We told all the girls to meet in the Hale Lounge at 6:00am so we could watch the news for the states plan of action and discuss the campus's safety evacuation plan. We ended up evacuating everyone upstairs by 10:30 and sat and waited for the Tsunami till 1:00pm. Here's the problem... There was no Tsunami! haha It was a crazy day though.
I'm glad nothing happened but at the same time... what a waste of energy! Now I'm totally thrown off schedule-wise. But it is okay. We're all safe! There was no damage on any of the Islands! Now we just have to focus on helping Chile.
Thank you to all those that Called or Text! I really felt your love and your prayers! Thank you!

Aloha Friday

I think that I should start trying to post something every Friday since that's when all the craziest things happen. Today was fun, I got my papers back from English that I spent hours writing. My first one, which was my Doll's House essay, I got 75 out of 85 on it. And then my second one, which I wrote on Flannery O'Connor's short story "A Good Man is Hard to Find" which I got 65. I was super mad about the second one and all the comments Professor Williams made. He commented against all the changes I made because the Tutor in the "Reading, Writing Center"! I was so bummed! It makes me think that I won't be going back there for any help. I'll just ask people who I know I can trust. Goodness. Maybe I just won't go to that particular Tutor!
After classes I had work for three hours. It wasn't too bad. However, when I walked around the Hale to make sure everything was running smoothly, I took a look at the bulletin boards I decorated earlier that month. This is what I found! Some of the girls had taken the pictures! I laughed so hard. I put up 16 celebrities; Shia Labouf, Will Smith, Channing Tatum, Chris Pine, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Lautner, David Beckham, Robert Downey Jr, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Christan Bale and Johnny Depp. So, guess which ones are gone! (All the bolded ones). All but seven. LoL. Robert Pattinson was the first to go, I'm sure. That's the kind of Hale I live in. I just thought it was funny that they stole the pictures. I was upset that someone took Ryan Reynolds. That was my favorite. I even put a little heart by his picture. Haha.
After work, I went with Camille, Jayne, Rich and Grant to celebrate Camille's Birthday! We went to Ted's bakery in Grants convertible and then ate dinner at Sunset beach. We sat on a blanket and ate. I took tons of pictures of the sunset. It really was beautiful. I never get tired of watching and listening to the waves. It really goes to show that only a powerful being like Heavenly Father could create something so amazing. It kills me that such a beautiful thing gets a little tainted by girls who come to the beach just to take scandalous pictures of themselves in their bikinis. We joked about me going up and taking pictures of them with my own camera, but I didn't. I really didn't want to. Lol. Otherwise, the beach was gorgeous and it was nice to just relax and remember all the great things in life. I love taking my shoes off and just burying my feet in the sand. It feels so good. And when you step in the sand that the water just pushed up on shore, where it makes your feet cool and sticks to your feet like a sock. I really love it.
I drew in the sand till the water washed it away. It's okay though. It was so much fun! We had a blast! I got some chocolate Mousse from the bakery because I was planning to get some shrimp when we stopped off by Kahuku grill for dessert. When we got to the grill, there were CHOKE people there. All the times I've been there, I had never seen it that packed. Seek, Sterling, Krystal and Kei were working. I immediately started helping. I told Camille and them to go home and finish celebrating for her birthday while I helped. It was rough at first cause I just had to get used to the way Krystal and Kei did things, but it all worked out. It ended up being super fun. No surprise. The best was when I threw the potatoes I had just cut into the fryer right over Seek's head and he FLIPPED out! We both couldn't believe that I had actually made it. I didn't take any pictures of the grill cause we were so busy, but just know it was way fun. As usual. Plus, Sterling made me some cocnut shrimp when we were finished. DELICIOUS! One day I will take a picture of JUST the food. It's soooooooo Good!
Just another typical day in Hawaii. Actually, it's more of a typical day in Laie. You cannot really do too much without a car. Good thing I know choke people with cars! Love it! (Still kind of miss my personal chauffeur though). I absolutely love every minute I spend here on the Island. Plus, I learn something new each day. That's the best part of all!

Surfing!!!!

I finally got to go Surfing! I went out with Max, Rebecca, Shelby and Lindon. We went over to a Beach named Castles. I'm surprised at how many people here have never even heard of it. It's a really open beach with good waves for light surfing.
Max volunteered to be my teacher! Thankfully! Don't know what I would have done without him. I rode this huge blue foam board while Max rode the little one. (Bigger they are, the less experienced you are apparently). But I was totally okay with that. Anyway, before we actually went out in the water, he taught me how to stand up on the board. You put your hands in front of you and push your self on to one knee. Then they foot that is still back stays in the back as you stand. Simple enough right? So then we headed out. Paddling out wasn't as hard as Max said it would be. (Must have been my swimming experience) Lol. Once we were pretty far out, Max sat up on his board and told me to paddle when he told me to, towards shore, and then stand when he shouted me to stand. (So basically just listen for his voice and do everything in order). So while we waited for a wave, Max taught me the spiritual connections of surfing. It was extremely touching. lol. He's very passionate about Surfing, but now I can see why... it's unlike anything else I've tried.
Finally a wave came. Max pushed me and told me to paddle like crazy. So I did. Suddenly the wave pushed me towards the shore really fast. Max screamed for me to stand. I pushed myself up, and all of a sudden, I WAS SURFING! I stood up on my first time! I got so excited, that I lost control of the board and fell.... but it was great while it lasted!
We surfed for about three to four hours. During that time, I managed to stand up a couple of times and stay up for a long time. I also saw lots of turtles swimming around me as I was paddling back out! That was really neat. On a negative note, I cut my foot on a rock and Max hit me in the head with his board. Lol. But otherwise it was great! At the end of the day, I realized I was super sunburnt on my face and on my back. Everything else was totally fine though! My back was burnt, but not my upper back, it was my lower back. I was totally wearing a modest swimsuit! But, it was still a two piece, and getting knocked around by waves sometimes made it rise a little, so I have this small stripe of red right on my back next to my trunk line. It's kind of funny! Plus, my hips and ribs are sore from laying on the board. But it's a small price to pay while having fun! I absolutely loved it! I plan on going out a lot more now! Thank goodness for Seek, Max and Shez Hannemann! They'll take me out anytime!
